People in Northern Ireland with sight loss caused by macular degeneration have a rare chance to hear about the latest treatment and research.
Top experts including, leading ophthalmologists, researchers and inspirational speakers including BBC broadcaster Peter White will visit the Belfast in June as part of a national roadshow about macular conditions.
More than half a million people in the UK have age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Macular degeneration causes loss of central vision eventually making it impossible to drive, read or recognise faces
The event has been organised by the Macular Society, in partnership with the Royal College of Ophthalmologists. It will be one of 5 taking place across the UK as part of the charity’s annual roadshow and will also include a low vision exhibition.
Cathy Yelf, Chief Executive of the Macular Society, said: “We have some fantastic experts speaking in Belfast as part of our Macular Roadshow and are delighted to have the Royal College of Ophthalmologists as partners in this project once again.
“The Society’s work has never been as important as it is today because more people than ever are developing macular disease. We hope anyone interested in macular degeneration will come along to hear about all the latest developments.”
The event is open to all those affected by macular conditions and their family, friends and carers, as well as those who are interested in finding out more. Places are limited so early booking is advised.
Entry to the Roadshow, which will take place at the Europa Hotel on 7 June from 10.30 to 3.30pm is by ticket only. Tickets are £15 and available from the Macular Society on 01264 350551 or visit www.macularsociety.org/roadshows
