Derek Thompson is set to appear in the upcoming second season of “Blue Lights.” Born in Belfast, the 75-year-old actor is best known for his longstanding role as Charlie Fairhead in “Casualty,” where he became the series’ most enduring cast member. Thompson’s tenure on the show spanned nearly four decades and about 900 episodes, until the BBC revealed his departure slated for 2024. In “Blue Lights,” Thompson will take on the role of Robin Graham, a former police officer facing the repercussions of his past actions when a trainee solicitor, Jen Robinson (played by Hannah McClean), revisits an old investigation.
Thompson expressed his enthusiasm for joining the cast of “Blue Lights,” citing his admiration for the show’s debut season and his anticipation for working on the series in his hometown of Belfast. He also shared his confidence that the show’s second season would be as well-received as the first.
“Blue Lights,” created by Declan Lawn and Adam Patterson and premiered on BBC One in March 2023, quickly garnered acclaim. The BBC has since commissioned two additional seasons of the police drama set in Belfast, produced by Two Cities Television, ahead of the second season’s release this spring. The production team expressed their excitement about Thompson’s involvement, highlighting the privilege of having him join the “Blue Lights” cast and bringing him back to work in Belfast.
