Cork comedian and proud Assisi Animal Sanctuary Ambassador, Andrew Ryan, is stepping up — quite literally — for a cause close to his heart this Christmas!

Andrew will take on an epic 24-hour walking challenge to raise vital funds and awareness for Assisi Animal Sanctuary, one of Northern Ireland’s largest independent animal welfare charity.

“I’m so proud to be supporting Assisi — they do amazing work caring for animals who really need a helping hand. My wife Julie and I have a cat, our beloved Finbar, so aligning myself with Assisi Animal Sanctuary was such a natural fit.” said Andrew Ryan. “When I became an ambassador, I wanted to do something big to raise awareness and funds, and what better way than to walk around North Down for 24 hours straight!

It’s going to be tough, but knowing it’s for such a brilliant cause (and maybe a few wagging tails at the finish line!) will definitely keep me going.”

Starting from the Assisi charity shop on Upper Newtownards Road, Belfast, at 10am on Tuesday 18th November, Andrew will trek through Newtownards, Holywood, and Bangor, stopping in at Assisi’s charity shops along the way.

The journey doesn’t end there — Andrew will continue walking right through the night in Ward Park, before setting off again on Wednesday 19th November for the final stretch to the Assisi Animal Sanctuary itself, where he’ll complete his incredible 24-hour challenge.

Every step Andrew takes will help give animals in need a second chance at life and a loving forever home. So, whether you join him along the route, give him a cheer, or make a donation online, you’ll be helping to make a real difference this Christmas.

Grace Williams, Fundraising Manager at Assisi Animal Sanctaury said:

“We are absolutely thrilled and so grateful to have Andrew’s incredible support this Christmas.

Taking on a 24-hour walking challenge is no small feat, and it truly shows his dedication and compassion for animals in need. Every step he takes helps shine a light on the vital work we do each and every day and raises much-needed funds to give more animals a second chance at a happy life.

We’re so proud to have Andrew as our Assisi Ambassador — and we’ll be cheering him on every step of the way!”

Founded in 1997, Assisi Animal Sanctuary is one of Northern Ireland’s largest independent animal welfare charities. Based in County Down, Assisi rescues around 700 animals each year, including dogs, cats, rabbits, and guinea pigs. At any given time, around 200 animals are in the charity’s care — receiving shelter, food, veterinary treatment, and most importantly, love and the chance of a forever home.

Animal welfare is at the heart of everything Assisi does. No matter an animal’s age, background, or health, the team is committed to providing the best possible quality of life — something many have never experienced before.

As Assisi receives no government funding, it relies entirely on the generosity of individuals, businesses, and the wider community to continue its vital work. The charity must raise over £3,280 every day — around £1.2 million annually — to sustain its operations and continue to find animal companions their forever home.
