Public encouraged to vote for local heroes in People’s Choice Award as all-island campaign celebrates over €1 million donated to youth projects across Ireland since 2011.
Shortlisted charity and community groups to pitch their ideas for the chance to secure funding with winners to be revealed at Zeminar in October.
Popular broadcaster Pete Snodden today revealed the nine shortlisted non-profit organisations from Northern Ireland in the running for this year’s €100,000 Coca-Cola Thank You Fund, developed to empower and support young people across the island of Ireland. Joining Pete were representatives from Northern Ireland’s nominated organisations to encourage communities to cast their vote for this year’s ‘People’s Choice Award,’ at www.coca-cola.ie/thankyou. A further 13 groups in the Republic of Ireland were also shortlisted.
Marking a major milestone year for the Fund, which will see the total figure donated to youth-oriented non-profit organisations reach over €1 million since its launch in 2011, all 22 shortlisted groups will now continue in the process to pitch their ideas to a panel of judges for a share of this year’s €100,000 pot.
Receiving over 260 entries from 26 counties across the island of Ireland, Coca-Cola is once again giving the public a chance to have their say and vote for their favourite, with the ‘People’s Choice Award’ winner receiving an immediate grant of €5,000.
Delivered in partnership with YouthAction Northern Ireland and the Irish Youth Foundation, the Coca-Cola Thank You Fund seeks to support projects that will provide young people with opportunities to participate in local programmes, equipping them with the skills and experiences they need to be involved in today’s society.
Celebrating the shortlist announcement, Coca-Cola Thank You Fund ambassador Pete Snodden said; “Being involved in the Coca-Cola Thank You Fund over the years, I’ve seen first-hand the difference it makes to local community groups. There are young people right across the island of Ireland whose lives will be impacted by the work of these great organisations, so I would encourage everyone to check out the 2019 Coca-Cola Thank You Fund Shortlist at www.coca-cola.ie/thankyou and cast their vote for the People’s Choice Award. I look forward to revealing the winners at Zeminar in Dublin in October.”
Zoe Cunningham, Community Affairs Manager for Coca-Cola HBC Ireland and Northern Ireland went on to say: “The Coca-Cola Thank You Fund was designed to identify and support local community groups in Ireland and Northern Ireland with creative ideas to affect change. While we’re calling out a shortlist of 22 non-profit organisations here today, who will continue to the next stage of the judging process, we were truly overwhelmed by the response to this year’s milestone campaign and the standard of applications we received.
“A record number of counties across the island of Ireland submitted really creative project ideas to inspire young people in their local area, so the future is bright. I’d like to take this opportunity to congratulate those shortlisted today but also to encourage the groups who didn’t make it through on this occasion to keep going with their amazing efforts. We’re looking forward to hearing each of the groups pitch in the coming weeks and ultimately choosing our winners, who will be announced at Zeminar in October.”
All 22 shortlisted youth organisations are in the running to receive a grant of €20,000, €10,000 or €5,000 following their pitch to the panel of judges. Coca-Cola Thank You Fund and People’s Choice Award winners will be announced at Zeminar in Dublin on Wednesday 9th October 2019, where Thank You Fund Ambassadors Pete Snodden and Doireann Garrihy will be joining Coca-Cola for the presentation.
June Trimble MBE, CEO, YouthAction Northern Ireland said:
“We are absolutely delighted with the response to this year’s Coca Cola Thank You Fund and want to thank everyone who entered. It is with great pleasure that we are today announcing the Coca-Cola Thank You Fund shortlist. We had an extremely tough decision to make and reviewed over 260 applications, each with an amazing story to tell. We can’t wait to see the profound impact this fund will have on the winning groups.”

About the Coca-Cola Thank You Fund
Now in its ninth year, the Coca-Cola Thank You Fund works with a range of charities, community and voluntary organisations, sporting groups and NGOs to back creative new initiatives that inspire and support young people in Ireland aged 16-25 years old.
In 2019, grants totalling €100,000 will be awarded to projects under the categories of education and training, diversity and inclusion in young people and those that take an innovative approach to demonstrating sustainability. Since 2011, the Coca-Cola Thank You Fund has donated over €955,000 to 83 non-profit organisations involved in youth targeted community, social and education programmes.
To date €955,000 has been given to 83 non-profit organisations in Ireland and Northern Ireland.
How will the Coca-Cola Thank You Fund be allocated in 2019?
In 2019, Coca-Cola will award grants totalling €100,000 to non-profit organisations. The Fund judging panel will determine the division of the funding.
The Fund’s application form facilitates entrants in selecting which funding amount is most suitable for their project – €5,000, €10,000 or €20,000.
The judges will take this preference on board in their consultations but in some case the funding awarded may be higher or lower than that requested.
The People’s Choice Award will be voted on by the public and the winning organisation will receive funding for their project from the Coca-Cola Thank You Fund. Votes will be managed through www.coca-cola.ie/thankyou
