NORTHERN Ireland’s newest up-and-coming chef Chris McGowan dazzled the record crowds at the 2016 Tesco Taste Festival with some of the skills which continue to secure him acclaim.
The chef behind restaurant Wine & Brine in Moira, led one of the numerous cookery theatres at the three-day event at Custom House Square in Belfast.
Chris, whose restaurant just clinched the title of the Best Local Restaurant in the UK for 2017 as voted by The Good Food Guide, offered the audience samples of his Cured Salmon, Short Rib Brine and Smoked Mackerel.
And illustrating the culinary flair which has also secured Chris a third appearance on the Great British Menu, when he will appear on TV screens in the Northern Ireland heat in the next few weeks, he also created the delicately-flavoured Scallop Ceviche, embellished with pomegranate seeds, shallots and spring onion.
Crowds who devoured the samples described his recipes as “exquisite”, “delicious” and “so fresh”.
The chef paid tribute to the Festival as a fantastic platform to illustrate the top quality produce on sale on Tesco NI shelves. Chris said: “The quality of the produce in Northern Ireland is absolutely immense. We as a small country punch well above our weight in relation to produce,” he said.
“It’s fantastic for Tesco to showcase small producers and to let their customer base really know where their produce is coming from.”
