The new series of Catchphrase has provoked a mixed reaction from fans lamenting the absence of former presenter Roy Walker.

All-new Catchphrase is now presented by Stephen Mulhern and it seems the show’s new host did not go down well. Which is a shame as I like Stephen Mulhern.

Viewers flocked to Twitter to share their opinons on the revamped programme, with most criticising Mulhern.

Jamie Crouch said: ‘Catchphrase isn’t Catchphrase without Roy Walker. Therefore I’m not interested.

Rob Smedley added: ‘In the words of Roy Walker, “Its good but it’s not right!”‘

‘Oh god, they resurrected Catchphrase without Roy Walker. Should turn it off but easier to sit aghast, yelling THAT’S NOT A CATCHPHRASE,’ said Jess Brammar.

Meanwhile, Lee Clarke wrote: ‘Catchphrase is most definitely a classic but it would be that much better if Roy Walker would have returned too. #yourriiiiiiiight#mrchips‘.

Mick Convery wrote “Roy Walker would be turning in his grave. If he was dead”

Dee Dee Ruddock chimed in: ‘I don’t remember Roy Walker being this patronising to the contestants #catchphrase#stephenmulhern’.

Tonight’s episode was the first of nine in the new series of Catchphrase, which was axed in 2002.
