Belfast’s CastleCourt shopping centre announced today that it has flicked the switch to eight brand new electric car charging points, creating Northern Ireland’s largest e-car power hub.

The new, state-of-the-art charging hub, featuring three eye-catching Tesla chargers – a first for Belfast – and five Zappi chargers, have just been installed in CastleCourt’s car park and are free to use for customers.

Most e-car charging points in Northern Ireland comprise of only two charging facilities.

CastleCourt said this latest initiative created multiple benefits for shoppers, the city and the wider environment.

CastleCourt centre manager, Paul McMahon, said:

“Our new e-car charging hub represents a sustainable and substantial investment. It also shows just how committed we are to introducing meaningful initiatives that will positively impact Belfast City Centre’s air quality and environment and the experience of all our shoppers.”

This cutting-edge power hub features both Tesla ‘Destination’ charging points, specially-designed for Tesla’s new e-car models, as well as five Zappi charging points which accommodate drivers of all electric car brands.

CastleCourt is now one of only two shopping centres in the UK and Ireland to have an e-car charging hub this large.

“With the deadline for phasing out petrol and diesel-fueled cars approaching, spearheading a steady rise in the sale of electric cars, we expect demand for our chargers to increase and look forward to welcoming more customers recharging their batteries at CastleCourt,” Paul said.

To celebrate its e-car hub launch, CastleCourt also unveiled details of new ‘early bird’ and extended parking discounts.

One of Belfast’s busiest shopping destinations, the centre incorporates a growing mix of standout food and retail outlets including Debenhams, Boots, Argos, Dorothy Perkins, Miss Selfridge, Burtons and Jack Jones.

Located on Royal Avenue, CastleCourt is one of the largest shopping centres in Northern Ireland, attracting more than 12 million visitors every year.

Last month, UK fashion and homeware giant Matalan joined its 90 other retailers, cafés and eateries, representing its first investment in a city centre location on the island of Ireland. Other recent additions include fashion retailer DV8 and Insomnia coffee. More signings are expected over the coming months.
