Madison, 16 was nominated by Carrickfergus Rotary Club for Young Citizen of the Year award for her continued support of NI Children’s Hospice over the last 6 years.
Carrickfergus Academy student Madison has raised over £100,000 for the charity of which she is the only Youth Ambassador.
Carrickfergus Academy are delighted that Madison Wright has been chosen as the Rotary Club’s Young Citizen of the Year. She is an intelligent young woman who has devoted her time and energy to her charitable endeavours with huge success. We proudly refer to Madison as one of ours!

Madison’s fundraising for NI Children’s Hospice began when she seen the support her friends Noah and Gracie Coates received both at home and when they were both in Horizon House for respite care.
Over the last 6 years Madison has arranged various fundraising events from leg & chest waxing, coffee mornings and non-uniform days to her most recent gala balls in Titanic Belfast with her Platinum Sponsor Pinnacle. These two events raised over £60,000. All of the money Madison raises is donated in memory of her friend Noah who sadly passed away in July 2019.
Madison became aware of the Rotary Club when they invited her to speak at their annual Christmas Tree of Remembrancecheque handover a few years ago. The Tree of Remembranceappeal has been running for more than 10 years raising over £100,000. All funds raised from this appeal is split between NI Children’s Hospice and Action Cancer.
The local teen was shocked but very grateful to be nominated by Carrickfergus Rotary Club for this award.
The Rotary Young Citizen Awards recognise young people under 25 either individually or as a group, who have demonstrated their commitment to citizenship and responsibility demonstrated through various activities involving the nominees working in their communities for the benefit of others.
Madison attended the awards ceremony in Warwickshire to pick up her award with her parents, Carrickfergus Rotary Club President, Mr Michael McCune, his wife and Monica Robertson, Lead for Youth service Rotary Ireland.

The Club are proud to each year donate half of their earnings from their Christmas “Tree of Remembrance” appeal at Tesco, Carrickfergus to the NI Children’s Hospice, with the other half going to Action Cancer. Since 2014 they have contributed over £120,000 to these most worthy causes.
We wish Madison every success as she attends the AwardsCeremony later this month with her family and Club President Michael McCune and Mrs Irene McCune. Well done Madison! We are very proud of you!
