The Braehead Clan played the perfect road game at The SSE Arena, Belfast on Tuesday night – taking a 4-1 win and the two Elite League points back to Scotland. Even with the Belfast Giants opening the scoring in the second period through James Desmarais, the Scottish side fought back to lead 3-1 at the end of 40 minutes before Matt Keith’s fourth goal rounded off the win.
Despite the loss, the Giants remain in fourth place in the standings, six points behind the league leading Cardiff Devils with three games in hand.
The Giants were without Mark Garside (injury) as well as Darryl Lloyd (Healthy Scratch), while Colin Shields returned to the lineup from injury.
The home side broke the deadlock through James Desmarais, playing in a number 5 jersey for the night, assisted by Jonathan Boxill and Kris Beech at 24:04. Stefan Meyer equalised at 30:27, before also adding the go-ahead goal at 37:34 with a powerplay strike.
Less than 30 seconds later, it was 3-1 as Ben Davies scored at 38:03 as the Braehead Clan took a stranglehold on the game after two periods.
Matt Keith scored at 53:08 to leave the Braehead Clan 4-1 ahead and give them an important win in Belfast.
The Giants return to action on Wednesday 30th December with a home game against the Gardiner Conference side, Dundee Stars – face-off 7pm at The SSE Arena.
