BINGHAM’S CAROLINE BETTER THAN THE REAL THING BECAUSE IT WORKS!

Whiteabbey man Billy Bingham has made a highly detailed model of HMS Caroline in tribute to the World War 1 light cruiser, the last floating survivor of the world’s largest naval battle, the Battle of Jutland in 1916. The ship has been docked in Belfast since 1924 and was in commission until 2011 before being fully restored to become an award-winning museum.

Billy says he is pleased with the model which took 18 months to complete. “I’m particularly happy with it because not only does it feature every detail of HMS Caroline as it would have looked the day it was launched, it also works!”

The model has undergone successful sea trials with four fully working propellers and steering controlled remotely.
