Belfast’s Grand Opera House launches its second Family Festival!

Following the huge success of its first Family Festival last year, Belfast’s Grand Opera House today launched its 2018 Festival, which will take place this summer with support from leading recycling specialists, ISL Waste Management Ltd.

The Festival’s programme includes a host of fun events from Tuesday 3 to Thursday 5 July 2018 aimed at bringing together the whole family. This year’s Festival includes events focussing on the importance of recycling, such as Beat Carnival workshops where children will get the chance to make instruments from recycled materials before bringing everyone together for an exciting Family Festival performance. The Theatre and ISL have also launched a primary school competition to see which class can build the best Northern Ireland landmark out of recycled materials!

The 2018 Family Festival includes the Amazon Jungle Show, and a series of workshops in animation, dance, drama, circus skills, magic, baby dance, and even chocolate! Following last year’s sell-out Tea with Tinkerbell and Peter Pan children’s parties, the Theatre is hosting panto-themed Fairy Godmother’s Tea Parties as part of this year’s programme!

The Theatre’s hugely popular Backstage Tours give visitors the opportunity to visit behind the scenes and the chance to stand on the iconic Grand Opera House stage, as well as learning about the Theatre’s colourful history. A brand-new initiative this year sees a number of tours aimed at bringing alive the magic of theatre in an exciting and engaging way for children under the age of ten.

ISL Waste Management is one of Northern Ireland’s leading waste management companies, dedicated to delivering zero waste to landfill and investing in driving education on the need to treat waste as a valuable resource.

Celine McLarnon, Director of ISL Waste Management commented; “As one of Northern Ireland’s leading waste management companies, ISL is committed to working with communities to change the perception of waste. It is wonderful that the Grand Opera House is including some fun activities in its Family Festival that follow a recycling theme.

“The Festival is a great opportunity to bring together the whole family and we are incredibly proud to support the Grand Opera House as it continues to deliver a programme to suit all ages.”

Ian Wilson, Chief Executive of the Grand Opera House, said; “Over 2,000 people attended our first Family Festival last year, so early booking for all events is recommended. This year’s Festival is packed with a range of events guaranteed to entertain, engage, and inspire children of all ages. Our new partnership with ISL Waste Management allows the Grand Opera House to open up the doors of the Theatre with a programme of unmissable events during the first week of the summer holidays.”

Places for each event in the Family Festival are limited and should be booked in advance. Full details of the three-day programme, and booking, is available at Tickets can also be booked on 028 9024 1919.
