Belfast Harbour is launching a community garden competition in partnership with The Conservation Volunteers, to give up to five youth groups and schools the chance to win a bespoke new garden space to enhance their local environment

The competition will be open to schools, youth clubs and play groups across the greater Belfast area and the successful winners will have their nominated garden space enhanced and improved by The Conservation Volunteers.

To be in with a chance of winning bespoke planters or sensory garden space, applicants will be asked to produce a one-minute video clip describing their space and explaining why redevelopment would benefit the community. The best entries will be selected by Belfast Harbour and The Conservation Volunteers and the winning spaces will be transformed between June and September.

Jenni Barkley Belfast Harbour’s Communications and Corporate Responsibility Manager said:

“Working in partnership with our local community to enhance the environment is a key priority for us and we would encourage all community groups and schools in the area to take part. We have worked with The Conservation Volunteers last year and delivered the very successful Harbour in Bloom project and are looking forward to working with them again seeing the winning gardens come to life.”

Helen Tomb, Operations leader with The Conservation Volunteers said:

“We are a community volunteering charity which helps thousands of people each year to reclaim and conserve outdoor spaces, contributing to happier and healthier communities. We are delighted to be working with Belfast Harbour again to design and develop new community garden spaces and we look forward to reviewing the entries.”
