The Stena Line Belfast Giants return to the ice this Friday, Saturday and Sunday for three vital games in the race for the 2018/19 Elite League championship. Belfast have cut the gap at the top to three points behind the Cardiff Devils with 18 games remaining, after trailing by eleven points less than two weeks ago.
The opponents this Friday and Saturday are the Guildford Flames with face-off at both games 7pm at The SSE Arena. The Giants then travel to face the Nottingham Panthers on Sunday, puck drops 4pm.
The Giants now face six games inside the next ten days with the Glasgow Clan the opponents on three occasions next week following this weekends games.
Head Coach Adam Keefe is looking forward to back-to-back games on home ice though is wary of this weekends’ opponents.
“It is always a tough games against the Flames, over the last two seasons since they entered the league,” said Keefe. “They have been a tough task, a fast and skilled team with a dangerous powerplay. We will need to be well disciplined and smart against these guys and make sure to outwork them.”
With three games in three days coming up this weekend, the Giants will look to take each game as it comes and not look too far ahead. The Giants Head Coach knows how important each game is, especially at this stage in the Elite League season.
“Everything right now is one game at a time with how the season has ‘shaken down’ and how tight it is throughout the entire league. Every game is massive and we do not want to look too far ahead. We will just worry about tomorrow.”
Despite clawing back points on the league leaders in recent weeks, the Giants Head Coach is not getting too carried away with his team’s recent form and wants his side to remain focused on the tasks at hand this weekend.
“It is certainly tight at the top, though after the weekend it could all change. We are just focusing on tomorrow and we’ll try to get two points there and we’ll worry about the next game when it comes.”
There are four Giants home games in the next eight days. First up is this Friday and Saturday against the Guildford Flames before two games against the Glasgow Clan, the Challenge Cup Semi-Final 2nd Leg on Thursday 14th February followed by an Elite League clash on Saturday 16th February.
