Belfast’s food scene is not a frozen top ten. It is neighbourhoods, markets, openings and the rooms people actually book. Use this page for how the city cooks and where the guides sit — then jump to the living lists for where to eat this week.

Food scene guide = history, signature habits, how the city eats. Best-of + directory = where to eat now. We do not invent LoveBelfast rankings or till prices.
How the city cooks
Belfast still runs on markets, pubs that feed, and rooms that opened when the city centre and Cathedral Quarter got denser. Expect seafood and Ulster staples alongside newer small plates, brunch queues and late kitchens. Signature habits matter more than a score: Saturday under the Victorian roof at St George’s, a CQ dinner crawl, Titanic Quarter when you are already waterfront.
For drink-first nights after dinner, use the nightlife guide. For a daytime loop, pair food with the Cathedral Quarter and city centre day hubs.
Neighbourhoods, not rankings
Orient by place — Cathedral Quarter, city centre, south Belfast / University area, Titanic Quarter, harbour edge — then open the directory for the current list. When LoveBelfast covers a new opening, the write-up goes on the site and the directory is the living index. Pieces marked awaiting review stay that way until visited.
Markets and festivals
St George’s is the weekly anchor — check the market hub for council hours (they change on bank holidays). Bigger food festivals and Christmas market dates move year to year; confirm on What’s On and the monthly roundup rather than trusting an old calendar block.
