Today saw Belfast Chamber of Trade and Commerce launch a first-of-its kind awards initiative aimed at recognising the very best of Belfast business.

The ‘President’s Recognition Award’ will be awarded to a total of 12 businesses over the next 12 months in acknowledgment of the positive role they have played to the life of the city.

Speaking at the launch of the new initiative, Paul McMahon, President of Belfast Chamber of Trade and Commerce said: “The Chamber is delighted to launching these new awards with the support of our Lord Mayor Nichola Mallon.

“Belfast Chamber of Trade and Commerce represents over 400 businesses in Belfast, across many sectors and industries, from entertainment, hospitality, professional services to retail and healthcare – and these awards are open to all of them.

“The criteria will take into consideration every aspect of the business, from customer service, investment into the city and marketing excellence, as well as those who have actively contributed to driving footfall and for being an excellent ambassador for visitors and indeed our own citizens.

“The aim of the awards is not only to recognize these fantastic businesses, but to encourage others to follow by example, and for us all to work better together to showcase the best that Belfast has to offer.”

Paul concluded, “Whilst the President will select the monthly winner, I would encourage members to nominate both themselves, and others highlighting the reasons why they should be considered.

Belfast businesses work very hard to ensure they are at the top of their game and compete with the best nationally and internationally.

“I am certain that these new awards will only raise the bar further and give others a great example to follow.

“I look forward to reading and learning about the award winners over the coming year.”
