New bakery employing 8 staff in Cherryvalley.

The Belfast Baking Company has invested £100,000 in a new bakery in Cherryvalley, East Belfast to celebrate its first birthday. The bakery, which employs 8 staff, is a second outlet for the Belfast Baking Company, who last autumn opened a £350,000 bakery and bistro employing 30 staff at the Titanic Quarter.  The company specialises in combining traditional and artisan baking with good, wholesome hearty food.

The new Cherryvalley bakery offers customers traditional artisan breads, patisseries and bespoke cakes to order, as well as take out sandwiches and hot food options.

Commenting on the new business, owner, Paul McDonald said;

“To open a second baking business and celebrate our first successful year in business is wonderful.  We are delighted by the response locally to the business, and now we are able to invest more into the local economy here, and help support employment and training, both of which are very important to our business.”

The Belfast Baking Company, owned by Paul and Sharon McDonald, has already won Food NI Bakery of the Year 2016, was shortlisted for the BBC Good Food Show held in October, and has baked a host of amazing cakes for clients, including a 7ft replica of the Titanic and a replica of the new Northern Ireland Football Stadium, to name but a few.   The company continues to work with Belfast Metropolitan College developing student bakers, and works closely with Stena Line Belfast Giants team, in the SSE Arena.

Reflecting on the success of the first year, Sharon McDonald added:

“We have had a wonderful first year, it has been amazing from the first day we opened our doors.  The new bakery is proving very popular among residents and businesses in East Belfast, and with plans to licence the bistro at the Titanic Quarter, we are excited about expanding into an evening menu too.  Our team are excellent, and so passionate about good baking and fresh food.   We have been especially pleased by the reaction to our cakes, from across the world, literally!  Our bakers and cake makers have over 50-years’ experience in traditional Irish bread making and handmade cakes, which we will continue to serve fresh daily.

“To celebrate our first birthday and thank our customers for their support, we are giving everyone who visits the bakery at Cherryvalley or the bistro at Titanic Quarter the chance to enter a draw to win a year’s free cakes! Details are available in stores.   The new Belfast Baking Company bakery is located at CherryValley, 28 Gilnahirk Road, beside Corry’s butchers.
