Andras House, one of Northern Ireland’s leading hotel and leisure groups, has made another significant move in the hospitality sector by acquiring the Travelodge on Brunswick Street in Belfast for a £8.75 million. This deal, backed by Danske Bank, reinforces Andras House’s position as a key player in the region’s thriving tourism market.

Strengthening an Already Impressive Portfolio
With over 1,300 guest rooms across 12 hotels and apartment properties including notable brands such as Crowne Plaza, Hampton by Hilton, and Holiday Inn’s Andras House has a long-standing reputation for quality and innovation. The latest acquisition adds 90 rooms to its portfolio and marks an exciting step in cementing the group’s presence in Belfast city centre.
Originally developed by Andras House in 1991 as The Belfast Plaza, the building later operated as a Holiday Inn before being acquired by Travelodge in the mid-1990s. With Andras House now taking on the Travelodge franchise for Northern Ireland, the company aims to initiate a significant refurbishment in line with Travelodge’s nationwide upgrade programme, maintaining the brand’s budget-friendly ethos and broad consumer appeal.
New Openings on the Horizon
Adding to the momentum, The Marcus Portrush, part of Hilton’s Tapestry Collection, is scheduled to open this summer ahead of The Open golf tournament returning to Northern Ireland. This opening underscores Andras House’s commitment to supporting the region’s growing leisure and business tourism by offering more choice and diverse experiences for visitors.
A Vote of Confidence and Future Growth
Rajesh Rana, Director of Andras House, expressed his enthusiasm for the company’s expanded footprint:
“We are pleased to add this well-placed asset in the heart of Belfast city centre to our portfolio. Travelodge is a strong brand at the budget end of the UK market, and we are delighted to be its franchise operator in Northern Ireland. It is a vote of confidence in Andras House’s expertise and experience.”
He also emphasized the importance of the continued relationship with Danske Bank:
“We have a longstanding relationship with Danske Bank and the support of its team has been very helpful as we have grown and invested in the business. I look forward to continuing the relationship as we seek further attractive opportunities in future.”
Banking on Success
Paul Currid, Corporate Banking Manager at Danske Bank, said:
“Andras House is one of Northern Ireland’s most successful hospitality businesses and Danske Bank has supported it with funding for a number of significant transactions in recent years. We were pleased to play a part in enabling the company to complete its latest investment.
The acquisition complements Andras House’s existing brands and positions the business for continued growth as Northern Ireland’s leisure and business tourism sector continues to gain momentum.
Looking Ahead
From budget stays at the newly acquired Travelodge to the upscale experience soon to be offered at The Marcus Portrush, Andras House demonstrates a clear vision of expansion and diversification. This strategic move highlights both the resilience and potential of Northern Ireland’s hospitality industry, promising even more exciting developments as the region welcomes a surge of domestic and international visitors.
