UTV’s Sport team takes you right into the heart of the action in the final countdown to the 2021 Guinness 6 Nations Championship, with a one hour special on Friday night, presented by UTV sport correspondent Ruth Gorman and including some of the biggest names in Irish rugby past and present.
UTV 6 Nations Programme which airs next Friday at 8.30pm, is an Ireland rugby fan’s dream. The 6 Nations this year is sure to be one like no other, given the Covid-19 restrictions in place, but it’s bound to still generate the same excitement and passion, from players and fans alike.
In the studio, Ruth will be joined by former Ulster and Ireland internationals Chris Henry and Darren Cave, getting their expert insights on the tournament ahead, the likely stand-out teams and players. There’ll be analysis of the Ireland team, their chances of lifting another 6 Nations crown and how their first match against Wales on Sunday 7th will go.
Former Ireland captain, Rory Best, takes time out to chat to Ruth. Rory will be part of ITV Sport’s star-studded commentary team, giving fans key insights and expert opinion for the duration of the tournament.
UTV Sport’s Simon McIntyre spends time with legend Willie John McBride, getting his views on the 6 Nations, the Ireland team, The Lions and much much more. On the fact that all matches will be played behind closed doors, he comments, “It’s peculiar to see rugby being played behind closed gates. I don’t know how these professional players feel. I know when I was playing the crowd always gave you that lift and the players must feel that.”
We’ll speak to key players from the Ireland camp and their new forwards coach, former Ireland captain Paul O’Connell, about their 6 Nations ambitions and thoughts on the challenges ahead. And despite the Women’s tournament being postponed until later in the year, we get an inside track from Bushmills-born Ireland star Claire McLaughlin. She combines the world of international rugby with an incredibly demanding career on the frontline as an NHS doctor.
We’ll also check in on some local fans, who are going all out for the stadium experience while watching at home.
So tune in for an hour of pure rugby indulgence, the perfect warm up for the 6 Nations – Friday 5th February, 8.30pm on UTV.
