The five participants from Omagh – Doreen Alexander, Kate Kirk, Annette McCollum, Cathy McElmurray and Gary Watson – will travel to Spain 28th September 2017 to start their 100-kilometre hike across the famous Camino de Santiago trail. The quiz night will serve as their official fundraising kick-off.
All five work for Mencap’s Supported Living Service, a scheme that helps adults with a learning disability find suitable housing -and support them in living as they want to in the local community. All funds raised from the trek will go directly to the supported living service in Omagh.
Gary Watson, a Mencap support worker in Omagh who is going on the trek, said:
“We are embarking on the weeklong trek across the Camino de Santiago because, as support workers at Mencap, we know how vital this organisation is to the Omagh community and Northern Ireland as a whole.
“In Omagh, we offer one-on-one guidance and 24-hour support to people with a learning disability and their families. Our goal is to make sure these people with a learning disability have a chance at a full life and that they have a voice in our community.
“We invite everyone in Omagh to attend our pub quiz on 18th July. It is sure to be a fantastic night for an incredible cause. We can’t wait to see everyone at the Coach Inn!”
Admission to the pub quiz is £3 per person. For more information about the event, call 02890 691 351 or email fundraising.ni@mencap.org.uk.
