Waterworks Park

– Thousands set to attend 6th annual North Belfast Lantern Parade & Magical Festival on October 29

Up to 4,000 revellers are set to flock to Belfast’s Waterworks Park this month to participate in one of the north’s biggest cross-community festivals – the annual North Belfast Lantern Parade & Magical Festival.

Organised by New Lodge Arts, attendees to the colourful parade – which sets off from Crumlin Road Gaol at 6.45pm on Thursday October 29 – can expect to enjoy a fun-filled agenda including street theatre, interactive performers, live music and dance acts.

Also on display will be stilt walkers, traditional Indian DHOL drummers, as well as an array of food stalls, all culminating with a magnificent firework finale at 8.45pm in Waterworks Park.

Hundreds of children from more than 30 schools and community groups right across North Belfast have been working hard in recent weeks, conceiving and creating their own eye-catching lanterns for the event. They will be participating in the carnival-style parade alongside street performers and players from Arts Ekta.

A range of free activities will also be taking place between 11.30 – 3.30pm on Wednesday October 28th & Thursday 29th October including, artist workshops and demos, caricatures and other visual arts workshops.

“The North Belfast Lantern Parade is a fantastic opportunity for communities to engage in a creative environment and to build good relations. Now in its sixth year, we’re extremely excited once more to show off the creativity and talent that can be found right across communities and schools in North Belfast.

It’s hugely rewarding to see the energy and enthusiasm children and young people invest in shaping this event. This promises to be a fabulous community celebration – an event that will certainly have something for everyone!”
