Ulster GAA has announced the initiation of necessary maintenance and pre-enabling works for the Casement Park redevelopment project. This announcement is highly anticipated by GAA members across Antrim, Ulster, and Ireland, marking a significant step forward.
The scope of the pre-enabling works, set to commence in the week of February 19th, has been outlined by Ulster GAA. The organization expresses enthusiasm about beginning on-site activities and has communicated the plans and project timeline to local residents, as well as the local voluntary, business, and tourism sectors. The initial phase of work, starting next week and continuing through March, will concentrate on preliminary ground works, followed by site clearance from April to June, which includes dismantling the old terracing.
The Department for Communities (DfC) is at the forefront of procuring the main construction contract for the project, utilizing UK Government frameworks designed for major strategic infrastructure projects. In recent years, Ulster GAA and the Irish Football Association have collaborated closely. Tom Daly, Chairman of the Ulster GAA Stadium Board, expressed his delight that the iconic stadium is among the ten host venues for the UEFA EURO Championships in 2028.
Tom Daly commented on the commencement of the works, highlighting it as a pivotal milestone for Casement Park’s redevelopment. He shared the collective anticipation for this new phase, aiming for a precise timeline to deliver Ulster GAA’s provincial stadium and a new home for Antrim. Daly acknowledged the challenges faced in reaching this stage but emphasized its importance as preparations for the delivery phase begin. Casement Park is envisioned to not only host major GAA games but also serve as a community hub accessible seven days a week.
