This week marked 100 days to go until the 2015/16 Elite League season begins – Steve Thornton spoke to belfastgiants.com as he continues to make progress in recruiting  players who will pull on the Teal Belfast jersey come September,
“Things are going really good. I like the look of those who we have brought in so far, happy with the returning guys that we have as well as the names out there that are interested in what we have to offer.”

“I am close to a new signing and there are a couple of guys that I am focusing on & hoping to get – but in this game if you are not getting rejected on guys, then you are probably not going after the right guys. You always ‘shoot for the moon’ on players to give you the best chance on paper and hopefully they all come in and adapt to the UK style of game.”

Although excited for the season ahead, the Giants Head of Hockey Operations is happy to be patient while in the hunt for the right players for the roster,

“There are still a few players who will take time to sign – so I can definitely use the time remaining, especially with the work permit process. As soon as the season ends, you’re itching to get the guys back and get going again without a doubt.”

With the countdown firmly on for the new season – Thornton is looking ahead to the 2015/16 schedule being released in the next few weeks,

“We are hoping to have the fixtures released earlier than last year with meetings scheduled for the end of June with the new fixtures expected to be confirmed in early July.”
