Launched in June 2009 National Theatre Live have broadcast more than twenty productions direct from the stage of the National Theatre to other theatres in the UK and around the world.
Robert Louis Stevenson’s story of murder, money and mutiny is brought to life in an exciting new stage adaption by Bryony Lavery. It’s a dark, stormy night. The stars are out. Jim, the inn-keeper’s granddaughter, opens the door to a terrifying stranger. At the old sailor’s feet sits a huge sea-chest, full of secrets. Jim invites him in – and her dangerous voyage begins.
Each live broadcast is filmed in front of a live audience in the theatre and cameras are carefully positioned throughout the auditorium to ensure that cinema and theatre audiences get the ‘best seat in the house’ view of each production. Satellites allow the productions to be broadcast live, without delay, to cinemas and theatres throughout the UK as well as many European venues.
