Bone Appetit for NI’s yuppie puppies
Bangor hotel and bistro, The Salty Dog, has taken its love of pups to the extreme by launching a seven course canine gourmet tasting menu any dog will go ‘mutts’ for.
The ‘pawesome’ menu features seared Scrabo Cottage Farm calves liver and Hannan’s ham hock lollipop, lashings of marrow gravy over pork mince meatballs, honey glazed saddleback pig’s ear – all washed down with a delicious Salty Dog beer bowl.
The creation of the menu is in direct response to a growing number of yuppie puppies in NI who know their caviar from their cornflakes as a result of their owners’ sophisticated palettes.
These high-income pet owners are more likely to splash the cash when it comes to their pups, and so the £15 taster menu, is a no-brainer.
Ken Sharp, proprietor of The Salty Dog, said: “Dogs have been long been welcome at The Salty Dog and we like to think we were first in NI to give them a seat at the table. Now, with our new canine tasting menu, that doesn’t need to stop at the meal.
“A dog is very much a member of the family and long gone are the days were they’re given any old scraps to eat. If we’re tucking into the finest local produce, why shouldn’t they?”
The Salty Dog’s efforts have not gone unnoticed, being named 2017’s Best Pet Friendly Hotel of the Year in the Georgina Campbell Awards.
