The Belfast Giants Rock Table Topping Clan 4-1 At The Odyssey

Belfast Giants vs Braehead Clan

The Stena Line Belfast Giants moved to the top of the Elite League with a 4-1 against the Braehead Clan at the Odyssey Arena on Friday.

The result sees the Giants level on points with Braehead and Steve Thornton’s side move into first place due to their greater number of wins in regulation time.

The 1st Vs 2nd clash, watched by over 4,000 spectators in Belfast, saw both sides come out strong, calling netminders Stephen Murphy and Kyle Jones into action right away.

The deadlock was broken close to the end of the first period with Colin Shields firing home after being found in space by a nice Ray Sawada pass.

The Giants began to dominate in the second period with two goals in only 34 seconds. First, Craig Peacock tipped in a Davy Philips shot followed by Kevin Saurette extending the lead to 3-0.

At the other end, Stephen Murphy stood on his head and saved well from Neill Trimm as the hosts held onto their lead.

A bad hit on Kevin Philips at the start of the third period led to a coming together between his brother David and Braehead’s Derek Roehl resulting in a ejection from the game for the Clan player. Peacock added his second of the game before Murphy was finally beaten by Meyer late on.

Final Score:
Stena Line Belfast Giants 4-1 Braehead Clan
