The creepiest and kookiest family in musical theatre is heading to Belfast this autumn as Ulster Operatic Company presents The Addams Family at the Grand Opera House.
Read our review: The Addams Family brings wicked humour and plenty of heart to Belfast’s Grand Opera House
Running from Tuesday 29 September to Saturday 3 October 2026, this gloriously eccentric production promises big laughs, memorable music and a heart-warming story about love, family and accepting those who may be a little different.
The multi-award-winning Ulster Operatic Company, previously responsible for Belfast productions of Legally Blonde and 9 to 5, will bring the much-loved Addams clan to life on one of the city’s most famous stages.
What is The Addams Family musical about?
Wednesday Addams is no longer the little girl her parents remember. The princess of darkness has grown up — and, to the horror of her unusual family, fallen in love with a sweet and intelligent young man from a respectable, apparently normal household.
There is just one complication: Gomez knows about the relationship, but Wednesday has asked him to keep it secret from Morticia. Forced to conceal something from his beloved wife for the first time, Gomez finds himself caught in an increasingly uncomfortable family dilemma.
Tensions rise when Wednesday invites her boyfriend and his parents to dinner at the Addams home. As the two very different families meet, secrets emerge, relationships are tested and one unforgettable evening threatens to change everything.
Alongside Gomez, Morticia and Wednesday, audiences can expect appearances from Uncle Fester, Lurch, Pugsley, Grandma and more familiar favourites.
Created by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice, the writers behind the hit musical Jersey Boys, with music and lyrics by Tony Award-nominated composer Andrew Lippa, the show is based on the iconic characters created by Charles Addams.
Combining spooky humour with a surprisingly tender story, The Addams Family is ultimately a celebration of love, friendship and the wonderfully strange ties that hold families together.

From the Love Belfast archive
This will not be Love Belfast’s first encounter with the Addams clan. We previously reviewed The Addams Family when the touring musical visited the Grand Opera House in October 2017. We also saw St Agnes’ version in 2023. It was excellent then.
Almost nine years later, Belfast audiences will have the opportunity to enter that wonderfully weird world once again — this time through a fresh production by Ulster Operatic Company. It should be particularly interesting for those who saw the earlier Belfast run to discover how a local company puts its own stamp on the familiar characters, gothic comedy and surprisingly warm family story.
The return also feels well timed. Wednesday Addams has found a new generation of fans in the years since the musical’s previous Belfast appearance, but the stage show offers a different story centred on what happens when Wednesday falls in love and the Addams family is forced to confront the frightening prospect of change.
