Carnival Promotions, Northern Ireland’s premier children’s entertainment agency, is using the power of puppets to help children cope with the Covid 19 pandemic.
The team of experienced and professional performers, who have been entertaining local children at birthday parties and public events for decades, are using the popular characters of Punch and Judy to teach young viewers the basic steps they need to do to protect their health.
The first video has already attracted over 13,000 views online and based on this popularity, the entertainers have now posted another entertainment puppet show, with more to follow in coming weeks.
Larne-based Carnival Promotions owner John Haveron, a puppeteer and magician himself with over 20 years’ experience, is using his time self- isolating at home to make and post short videos online via social media informing children how to wash their hands, social distance and the other steps needed to protect them.
“We are a family of entertainers and we wanted to do something to help our local fans at this challenging time,” John said.
“Having worked with puppets for decades, I know how well children respond to what they say. In fact, they are more likely to listen and take in the information from puppets than adults because they are right on the same level.
“For children, puppets are like their favourite toys brought to life. They trust and love their toys and that care and attention then extends to puppet performances.
“Children are enthralled and captivated by puppets and Mr Punch and his wife Judy are familiar favourites the children can relate to.
“So we are rolling important safety information into the online shows which will both entertain and inform kids that are stuck at home and missing all the fun the puppet shows bring.”
The first in the series of the short videos is online now and explains to children in an engaging way the importance of hand washing and using tissues when sneezing and coughing.
John says: “This has proved so popular with are many young fans across Northern Ireland and further afield that we are now making more videos for both education and entertainment over the coming weeks to teach children important safety messages and of course to raise a laugh for them and reduce anxiety.”
The first video which promotes the message of ‘catch it, kill it, bin it’ can be viewed online on Carnival Promotions Facebook page or https://www.facebook.com/
