Teresa Livingstone Lyric Theatre
The comedian, writer and musician returns from the Edinburgh Fringe with a sharply funny show about finding your voice, taking up space—and finally abandoning the pressure to be “nice”
One of Northern Ireland’s most distinctive comedy voices is heading to the Lyric Theatre Belfast this September.
Teresa Livingstone will bring her new show, Nice Lady, to the Lyric’s Main Stage for two performances on Friday 4 and Saturday 5 September 2026.
Combining stand-up comedy with original songs, the show asks what happens when a forty-something Northern Irish woman stops trying to please everyone and starts saying exactly what she thinks.
The answer, unsurprisingly, is funny, honest and probably not suitable for anyone expecting a quiet evening of polite conversation.
From
Scundered
to the Lyric Main Stage
Many audiences will already know Livingstone from Scundered, the popular comedy podcast she presents alongside Sean Hegarty.
Her television and radio credits include appearances on BBC favourites such as The Blame Game, Soft Border Patrol and Late Licence. She also created and presented the BBC Sounds series Tell Teresa, which received a nomination at the prestigious Audio and Radio Industry Awards.
Now, she is bringing her unmistakable combination of wit, warmth and musical talent to one of Belfast’s biggest theatre stages.
What is
Nice Lady
about?
Women are often taught to be accommodating, agreeable and careful not to make other people uncomfortable.
Smile. Be helpful. Do not complain. Do not speak too loudly. And whatever happens, try to be nice.
Nice Lady takes that expectation and gleefully pulls it apart.
Livingstone explores what can happen when a woman decides she has spent enough time making herself smaller for the comfort of everyone around her.
The result is an hour of musical comedy about ageing, identity, confidence and the freedom that comes from finally telling the truth.
Beneath the jokes is a subject likely to resonate with many people: the struggle to reclaim your voice after years of being encouraged to remain quiet, pleasant and endlessly accommodating.
It is a celebration of taking up space—and laughing loudly while doing it.
Fresh from the Edinburgh Fringe
The Belfast performances follow Livingstone’s run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, where Nice Lady introduced audiences to what one reviewer memorably described as:
“Voice of an angel, mouth of a sailor—an unmissable hour of musical comedy from Northern Ireland’s favourite Cool Aunt.”
That description offers a fairly accurate warning of what awaits at the Lyric.
Audiences can expect clever songwriting, big laughs, Northern Irish observations and a performer who has no intention of pretending to be well-behaved for the sake of appearances.
LoveBelfast’s view
Teresa Livingstone has the ability to turn experiences that feel deeply personal into comedy that an entire room can recognise.
That is what makes Nice Lady more than a straightforward stand-up performance. The jokes may be bold and the language may occasionally be even bolder, but the show’s central message is surprisingly warm.
There is something liberating about watching a performer reject the pressure to remain quiet and agreeable—particularly when she can sing beautifully while doing it.
Belfast audiences have an opportunity to welcome Livingstone home from Edinburgh and see one of Northern Ireland’s funniest performers command the Lyric Main Stage on her own terms.
She may be a nice lady.
Just do not expect her to behave like one.
