SAINSBURY’S SPORT RELIEF GAMES 2016 TO HOST FLAGSHIP EVENT IN BELFAST WITH SUPPORT FROM DARREN CLARKE

Belfast has been selected as one of six cities across the UK to host a Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Flagship Games.

The Belfast Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Games will take place on Sunday 20th March 2016 starting at Custom House Square. Participants will be encouraged to run, walk, swim or cycle by signing up for the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile, the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Swimathon and the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Cycle. The money raised will help disadvantaged people living incredibly tough lives, across the UK and the world’s poorest communities.

Northern Irish golfing legend and previous European and PGA Tour winner, Darren Clarke, is urging people across the city and country to get involved. He said:

“Sport Relief is back and this year it’s going to be bigger and better! People of Belfast, your city has been selected to host one of six Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Flagship Games so I urge you to sign up to walk, run, swim or cycle.

“Whether you dress yourself from head to toe in fancy dress or don your sporting attire, the money you raise will change people’s lives right here in Belfast, Northern Ireland, the rest of the UK and across the world.

“There is no excuse not to take part on March 20th, simply sign up at sportrelief.com and have a great day out with family, friends or colleagues.”

The Mile begins at Custom House Square and winds its way around the city centre. The Swimathon action takes place a few minutes away from Custom House Square in Queens PEC.

Custom House Square will also host plenty of exciting activity throughout the day, with opportunities to try a range of sports from local clubs. The day will also be full of entertainment to give participants and spectators something to enjoy after the Mile, Cycle and Swimathon.

Further information on acts and entertainment will be announced on sportrelief.com as the event approaches.

The other selected cities chosen to host the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Games are Cardiff, Glasgow, London, Sheffield and Norwich.

Sport Relief is back from Friday 18th to Sunday 20th March 2016 and there are more ways than ever for you to take part, change lives and feel proud. Whether you get sponsored to enter an event at the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Games or fundraise with friends and family at home, work or school, you’ll help people living incredibly tough lives. In fact, half of all the money raised by the public is spent right here at home in the UK, with the other half used to make a difference in the world’s poorest communities.
