The Stena Line Belfast Giants scored a game tying goal in the last minute of regulation to force overtime with the Nottingham Panthers. With no score in the overtime period penalty shots were required to decide the contest with the Panthers edging the extra point.
After a scoreless first period the Giants got on the board first early in the second with Craig Peacock firing a pin point wrist shot high over the shoulder of Craig Kowalski. The Giants held the advantage for 15 minutes but with the period coming to a close the Panthers struck twice inside a minute with goals from Guillaume Doucet and Jonathan Boxill to go into the final period with the lead.
With Chubak pulled in favour of an extra skater there was a late scramble in front of the Panthers goal and to the delight of the majority of the 7164 in attendance at the Odyssey, Ray Sawada was on hand to tie the game and force overtime with 21 seconds remaining in regulation.
