The Patient and Client Council – the independent voice for the people of Northern Ireland on matters relating to Health and Social Care – has inspired hundreds of people across NI to have their say in the future of health and social care.
Over 200 people from across Northern Ireland attended the Patient and Client Council’s first members-only event, themed, ‘The Future is in your hands’ at the Spires Centre, Belfast on Thursday 10th March 2016.
The event empowered Patient and Client Council members to use their voice, with inspiring addresses from comedian and actor, Tim McGarry and Dr Tony Stevens, Chief Executive of the Northern Health and Social Care Trust. The event hit home how the public will play an important role in the important decisions that must be made in relation to the health and social care in Northern Ireland.
Guests were also given the opportunity to provide feedback on the current health and social care system, with a live voting system and a series of focus groups. Data collected from the event will be used by the Patient and Client Council to help improve their communications.
Data captured at the event showed that over 83% of members felt the event had encouraged them to get more involved in Health and Social Care and over 90% said they would refer a friend to become a member of the Patient and Client Council membership scheme. Over 64% of people in attendance have been a member of the Patient and Client Council Membership scheme for over one year.*
Speaking after the event, Louise Skelly, Head of Operations of the Patient and Client Council said:
“We are delighted that over 200 people came out to support this event. It proves how important the health and social care system is to people in Northern Ireland and we are grateful to those who took part, contributed their views, took part in surveys and focus groups.
“It’s very encouraging to see that over 83% of our members felt this event inspired them to get more involved in shaping the future of health and social care.
“We are an independent voice for the people of Northern Ireland and our vision is for the health and social care service to be shaped by patients, clients, carers and communities. We are here to listen and act on the public’s views and will continue to encourage our members to get involved.
“The Patient and Client Council membership scheme is free to join and the more people that become involved, the stronger our voice will be – together we can help shape the future of health and social care in Northern Ireland.”
The Patient and Client Council was established in 2009 to encourage people to share their views and experiences on Health and Social Care. It also provides advice and information on how to make a complaint about any part of the health and social care service.
