World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler cemented his place in golfing history with a commanding win at The Open, securing his fourth major title and edging ever closer to the elusive career Grand Slam.
Scheffler entered the final round at Royal Portrush with a four-shot cushion and wasted no time extending it—birdieing three of his first five holes. Despite a double-bogey at the 8th, he never looked back, finishing with a steady 68 to close at 17 under par.
This victory adds to a stellar season, following triumphs at the PGA Championship, CJ Cup Byron Nelson, and Memorial Tournament. The 29-year-old now sets his sights on the US Open next June, the only major left to complete the Grand Slam.
Harris English finished runner-up after a superb 66, while Chris Gotterup took third. A cluster of talent—Wyndham Clark, Matt Fitzpatrick, and Haotong Li—tied for fourth. Rory McIlroy, chasing a fairytale win on home turf, shared seventh place alongside Xander Schauffele and Robert MacIntyre after carding 10 under for the tournament.
McIlroy praised Scheffler’s brilliance, saying, “He’s been on another level—not just this week, but for the past two years. He’s the standard we’re all chasing.”
Elsewhere, Bryson DeChambeau lit up the final day with a 64, joining Corey Conners, Russell Henley, and Brian Harman in a tie for 10th. Notable names like Tommy Fleetwood, Justin Rose, Tyrrell Hatton, and John Parry ended tied 16th.
Scheffler by the Numbers:
4 major wins in just over 3 years—matching Tiger Woods’ pace for his first four 11 straight top-10 finishes this season Top-25 in all 16 global starts in 2025 Leads the FedExCup standings with a commanding margin
As the golfing world looks to next summer’s US Open, all eyes will be on Scheffler—now just one win away from joining the sport’s most elite club.
