The Chubby Cherub restaurant recently won our #LoveBelfast award, voted by our followers as the “Most Romantic Restaurant” in Belfast. So we thought we would go on a date night to check it out.
The restaurant decor is like a jewellery box of gold and baby angels. It’s bright, quirky and fun.
We were immediately greeted with a warm smile from the lovely Gina. The fiery red hair hostess couldn’t make us feel more welcome and suggested meals from the menu.
The young couple next to us were obviously on their first date and the family behind us were discussing their wedding plans. So romance was in the air, helped by a bottle of Peroni. The candle lit tables and chill out music help the romantic ambience. They even have a cupid’s corner which is more funny than cheesy. So I can see why it was so popular in the vote.
Now, I’ve been to Italy and have eaten in nearly every city after living there for a while. To be honest on most occasions I think our own N.Irish versions of Italian food is much better.
For main course I had “Tagliatelle alla creama di Pollo al Vino Bianco” which translates to corn-fed chicken, tagliatelle, spinach, pancetta, peas, mushroom and white wine cream.
The dish was just perfect…
My guest chose the dish recommended by our host Gina. It was the “Herb Gnocchi”. Peas, wild mushroom, truffle cream and Parmesan. I was expecting the pre-made gnocchi you can buy in the shop. But, this was homemade gnocchi and tasted so much nicer. The dish was simply delicious and although my guest wasn’t a vegetarian, they very much enjoyed it.
Now Tiramisu is my favourite dessert ever. Every restaurant has different styles which ranges from a cake to a creamy pudding, The Chubby’s version is probably the best ever. I just wish there was more! Seriously could eat a large bowl full it was so nice. The Chubby’s Tiramisu, came in a glass covered in shards of chocolate and contained cherries and was absolutely delicious. Accompanied with coffee I really did feel I was in heaven with the angels.
Chubby Cherub is really a hidden gem in the Belfast restaurant scene. They fully deserve their recent TripAdvisor award and their #LoveBelfast most romantic restaurant. I will definitely be back and can’t get enough of the Tiramisu!

Couldn’t disagree more; last visit (and I mean last) was marred by appallingly bad and disinterested service. Won’t be back!
Thats a shame John. Was not my experience at all.
