Melissa Hamilton’s Grand Ballet Gala was nothing short of breathtaking. It brought the beauty and power of ballet to Belfast in an unforgettable fusion of classical and contemporary artistry. This gala showcased Northern Ireland’s own globally celebrated ballerina, Melissa Hamilton, as both the star performer and the creative force behind a show designed to leave the audience spellbound.

The program captivated from start to finish, with highlights including Swan Lake Act 2. This classic piece was performed with precision and beauty, embodying the very essence of Hamilton’s talent and versatility. Another standout moment was Into the Light, a piece created specially for this occasion and performed alongside the hauntingly beautiful voice of local soprano Mary McCabe. The synergy between dance and live music was mesmerising, drawing the audience into a shared, almost ethereal experience.

Hamilton, a First Soloist with The Royal Ballet, is renowned for her grace and expressive technique. Since her triumph at the 2007 Youth American Grand Prix, she has reached remarkable heights, including guest performances with Teatro alla Scala, New National Theatre Tokyo, and Polish National Ballet, among others. Her talent radiated in every movement, a testament to her dedication and years of illustrious performances worldwide.

The evening also celebrated other remarkable talents. The world premiere of Solo Hana, performed by Sangeun Lee to the evocative music of Chopin, offered an intricate and deeply personal exploration that was met with reverent applause. Additionally, All Remains, performed by Ballet Ireland dancers, showcased contemporary ballet’s potential to convey complex emotions with breathtaking subtlety.

As the final curtain fell, the audience rose in a unanimous standing ovation, a fitting tribute to a night filled with elegance, passion, and sheer artistry. Melissa Hamilton’s Grand Ballet Gala was more than a performance; it was a celebration of ballet in all its forms—a true WOW moment for Belfast.
