There’s something instantly uplifting about this production from the moment the curtain rises. It doesn’t try to be overly modern or complicated — instead, it leans fully into what Anything Goes does best: big personalities, chaotic storytelling, and timeless musical numbers.
Set aboard the SS America, the story follows Billy Crocker, a determined romantic who sneaks his way onto the ship in pursuit of love. What unfolds is a whirlwind of mistaken identities, unlikely alliances, and plenty of comedic confusion. It’s fast-moving, slightly absurd at times, but that’s exactly where the charm lies.
What really stands out here is the strength of the ensemble. This is a company that clearly knows how to work together, and it shows in every scene. Whether it’s the large-scale musical numbers or smaller character moments, there’s a real sense of connection and energy across the stage.
Visually, the show is a treat. The costumes are bold, elegant, and constantly changing — particularly for Reno Sweeney, whose presence feels bigger every time she steps back on stage. It adds to the spectacle and gives the whole production a sense of glamour that fits perfectly with the setting.

Musically, it delivers. The vocals are consistently strong across the cast, with standout moments in the show’s most recognisable numbers. The live band adds real depth, giving the production that full, classic musical theatre sound that audiences expect from a show like this.
The choreography deserves a mention too. There’s a real confidence in the dance routines, especially in the larger tap sequences, which bring a real sense of scale and excitement to the performance. These are the moments where the show truly comes alive.

What makes this production work so well is its heart. It doesn’t feel over-rehearsed or overly polished — it feels lived-in, energetic, and genuine. There’s a clear passion from everyone involved, both on stage and behind the scenes.
St Agnes’ Choral Society has built a strong reputation in recent years, and this production reinforces exactly why. They understand how to entertain an audience, and more importantly, how to bring people together through theatre.
This is a show that doesn’t take itself too seriously — and that’s exactly why it works.
Anything Goes runs at the Grand Opera House until Saturday — and if you’re looking for a feel-good night out in Belfast, this is well worth your time.
