Review : 44 Hill Street Restaurant

‘You could be anywhere’ – we’ve all heard it, as Belfast sees yet another week of sunshine. Last night we were at 44 Hill Street, home of casual Mediterranean dining in the hub of the not-so-casual Cathedral Quarter.

Modern Mediterranean food is being served up by head chef Pierre, formerly of Coppi, with the aim to offer locals and tourists alike a more laidback experience than perhaps that of its predecessor, La Bastille.

Antipasti ‘44’ emblazoned boards are a go, fresh squid is doing a lemon and chilli dance in a perfectly hot pan and a ribeye is receiving proper BBQ justice on the chargrill. No fuss and all fresh – it’s all feeling very, Mediterranean? With a pineapple carpaccio and coconut sorbet to finish and friendly and thoughtful service throughout, there’s a lot of things being done right here.

What’s more is that by being open on the 11th & 12th July, you really could be anywhere in the world – luckily, however, you’re at 44 Hill Street.
