Record numbers visit Ron Mueck exhibition at the MAC; Pierce Brosnan ‘bedazzled’

The Ron Mueck exhibition at the MAC which opened to the public last weekend has attracted record numbers of visitors, the highest for an opening week in the ten year history of the MAC. More than 2,000 people have already attended what is the first major exhibition of the artist’s work in Ireland.

The exhibition brings together seven of the artist’s key works including the reputation-making Dead Dad (1997) and his monumental piece In Bed (2005). Visitors in the first week included Hollywood actor Pierce Brosnan who told his social media followers “if you have a chance to see the work of Australian Sculptor Ron Mueck at the Mac, check it out, it will bedazzle you.”

This is the first time the artist’s work has ever been seen on the island of Ireland. Besides his show at the MAC in Belfast, the only other places that Ron Mueck’s exhibitions can be seen are in Paris and Milan.

Mueck at the MAC is part of the organisation’s 10 year celebrations. Previous internationally-acclaimed artists at the MAC over the last 10 years have included Gilbert & George, David Hockney and Andy Warhol.

The Ron Mueck exhibition is free to attend but booking is advised and there is a suggested donation to the MAC of £5 per visitor. For more information, visit
