Record-breaking number of artists set to ‘draw’ in spectators as 2021 ‘Hit The North Street Art Festival’ programme revealed

· Festival will run from Sunday 5th September – Sunday 12th September.

·  Full programme has been revealed, including a series of environment inspired murals and a new ‘Belfast Legends’ wall.

Over 50 renowned local and international street artists have been confirmed for this year’s Hit The North Street Art Festival, supported by Hennessy.

Celebrating its 9th year, the full-line up and programme was revealed by Seedhead Arts and Hennessy at a special launch in Belfast. Artists Kev Largey and Nuala Convery, AKA KVLR and Wee Nuls, staged a live painting showcase for supporters of the festival at the Sunflower Bar on Union Street.

Hit The North Street Art Festival (HTN), was established in 2013 as part of rejuvenation efforts in the North Street region of Belfast. The festival remains in the same area today and has seen over 200 artists from all over the world visit Belfast, aiming to bring the city’s rich cultural history for mural art into the 21st Century.

Launching the programme, Adam Turkington, Director of Seedhead Arts said; “We are thrilled to unveil the full line-up for HTN which is set to be the most engaging yet as our artists and partners bring even more creative and innovative concepts to celebrate street art and urban culture.

“A number of themes have emerged from this year’s roster, with climate change and environmental issues inspiring many of our artists. Art can often be a compelling way to illustrate and inspire change so we are thankful to groups including Friends of the Earth and Youth for Nature trusting us with their vision.”

“Northern Ireland’s street art sector is incredibly diverse and gender inclusive and I’m glad that is also reflected in this year’s artist line up. A third of the artists identify as women, and we hope this showcase continues to inspire budding artists across the region to get involved.”

Speaking on behalf of Hennessy, Brand Manager Anna McLaughlin said: “It’s so exciting to partner with Hit the North again after the success of last year’s festival. Hennessy has a long history of partnering with and supporting artists and innovators and we are thrilled to be working with renowned local and international street artists here in Belfast. Hit the North Street Art Festival continues to evolve and brings colour and excitement to the streets of the city centre. With the new ‘Belfast Legends’ wall we hope to bring joy and pride to people here in Belfast while connecting Hennessy with local creatives!”

Predominately an outdoor showcase, HTN locations are well spaced out, making this a socially distanced festival. The festival was one of only a handful of events that also ran in 2020. Onlookers are invited to watch artists begin their work on Sunday 5th September on Union Street and Kent Street, Belfast. Refreshments will be provided by the Sunflower Bar.
