The George Best Belfast City Airport Community Fund has provided furniture which has enabled a local school to set up an outdoor classroom.
Mitchell House School used funding from the airport to buy tables and chairs, which are set up on its grounds when weather permits.
The partnership with Mitchell House is the latest to have been formed by the airport’s Community Fund, which has donated more than £350,000 to over 120 local projects and groups since it was developed in 2009.
David Kennedy of Mitchell House School said:
“Being able to provide an outdoor classroom has been a great asset for the school and one which the pupils are benefitting from greatly.
“The pupils chose the furniture themselves and then assembled it during technology classes. We have been delivering a wide range of lessons in the classroom, from maths to science, and it is enhancing the pupils’ learning experience.
“Belfast City Airport has been a long-term partner of Mitchell House School and we really appreciate the support we receive.”
Margaret Curliss of Belfast City Airport, who visited the school recently to see the furniture in place, said:
“Making a positive impact on our local community is hugely important to Belfast City Airport and we invest significant resources into ensuring we provide as much support as possible to a wide range of organisations.
“I enjoyed visiting Mitchell House and getting to see first-hand what the outdoor classroom means to the pupils. Education is a cornerstone of our CR programme and Mitchell House is one of the ‘Adopted Schools’ which the airport provides ongoing support to.”
