This Friday (16 August), a new series of the much loved programme ‘Healing Sounds with Malachi Cush’ premieres on RTE Radio 1. Hosted by the Co Tyrone singer songwriter, Malachi returns following a hugely successful debut season last year which captured the hearts of the many thousands of listeners who resonated with the emotional stories shared by a range of well known faces from across the island.

This month, in Malachi’s new powerful six part series, he is joined in the studio by a diverse selection of guests for poignant conversations and music with meaning, as they open up their hearts to him on Healing Sounds to express their own experiences of dealing with life’s various challenges including grief, loss and tragedy, alongside the joy of their journey of healing.

The vibrant mix of guests who share their deeply personal stories include broadcaster and hotelier, Noel Cunningham from Donegal, who talks about his journey with alcoholism; singer Tommy Fleming from Sligo speaks about his life-changing car accident and the death of both his parents within the same day; and broadcaster Pamela Ballantine MBE from Belfast opens up about her recent cancer diagnosis. Singer Sean Keane from Galway talks of recovery following his wife’s death and singer Sandy Kelly from Sligo reminds listeners never to be afraid to ask how someone is.

Speaking about the second series of Healing Sounds with Malachi Cush, presenter Malachi said: “I’m extremely proud that RTE has commissioned a second series of Healing Sounds following the first series’ success.  I received so many calls and messages from listeners last year who were inspired by the programme, so I’m looking forward to treating the listeners to another selection of wonderful guests who will share their very personal stories over the next six weeks.

“It was a real joy for me to sit down and talk with my guests to record this series and I appreciated how they all immersed themselves in their interviews, breaking down barriers and baring their souls to speak with openness and honesty about such personal experiences of trauma, sorrow, loss and picking up the pieces to face the road ahead. I really appreciate their trust and have no doubt that there is so much within these conversations that the listeners will relate to, I know I could certainly relate with a lot of what they had to say.

“There’ll be plenty of moments of laughter and tears as the series progresses and I believe that the programme is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit, as so many listeners will be able to identify with having faced similar challenges in their own lives. I hope that listeners of RTE Radio 1 will be uplifted by my guests’ choices of music that are aired on Healing Sounds.”

Healing Sounds promises to offer a unique blend of heartfelt conversation and meaningful music that speaks to the soul. Tune in to ‘Healing Sounds with Malachi Cush’ at 10.00pm from Friday 16 August on RTE Radio 1 and at www.rte.ie to be part of these inspiring journeys.
