This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Love Belfast has announced a new charity media partnership with local organisation Cancer Focus NI. The partnership will see Love Belfast use its digital news and social media platforms, throughout October and beyond, to share Cancer Focus NI stories, campaign updates, and practical information. The relationship will help the charity reach more people across Northern Ireland who have been impacted by cancer.
Cancer Focus NI provides a range of services for people affected by cancer, including Nurseline, counselling, family support, bra and swimwear fitting, and specialist support groups. In addition, the charity operates a Cancer Support Centre in Fermanagh and most recently announced plans for a Centre on the grounds of Altnagelvin Hospital in partnership with the Western Trust — made possible thanks to £4.1 million in All-Island Funding.
During October, the charity will run its Go Pink campaign to encourage people to check their breasts, know what is normal for them, seek medical advice, and support local services through fundraising and donations. To mark the month, the charity will also run three of its Pink Runs in Belfast, Enniskillen, and Derry~Londonderry.
Commenting on the partnership, Inga Donaldson, Founder of Love Belfast, said:
“We’re incredibly proud to become a charity media partner of Cancer Focus NI. Cancer is something that touches so many families across Northern Ireland, including my own circle of friends. Last year, I lost a close friend to cancer, so this partnership is particularly meaningful to me personally.
“Love Belfast has always been about using our platform to connect with and support our community. Through this partnership, over the coming months, we can help Cancer Focus NI reach thousands of people with potentially life-saving awareness, practical information and details of the incredible support available locally. We’re especially excited to launch the new relationship to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month. If sharing one story encourages someone to check themselves, seek advice or access support when they need it, then our platform is being used for something that truly matters.”
Cancer Focus NI delivers support services to more than 4,000 people and families each year. To achieve this, the charity has to raise over £5 million every year to fund the delivery and growth of their Cancer Support Centres and provide specialist support services.
Speaking about the importance of this charity media partnership, Maeve Colgan, Director of Fundraising and Retail at Cancer Focus NI, said:
“Breast Cancer Awareness Month is the perfect occasion to announce this new and exciting partnership. We are grateful to Love Belfast for helping us amplify our message and reach more people with information about our charity’s vital services and our charity’s fundraising need. Just £31 will pay for thirty minutes of breast cancer support services to an individual or family when they need it most. With all monies raised staying local to support our work, I encourage individuals, workplaces, groups, and schools to fundraise for Cancer Focus NI this October.”
