Some of the biggest names in music have united to record a cover of the Beach Boys track God Only Knows for the BBC’s new music initiative, BBC Music.

Martin James Bartlett

Martin James Bartlett: Winner of the 2014 BBC Young Musician of the Year competition.

Pharrell Williams

Pharrell Williams: American singer/producer and one of the busiest men in music who recently had huge success with feel-good track Happy.

Emli Sande

Emeli Sande: Scottish singer/songwriter and winner of the 2013 Brit award for both Best Female Solo Aritst and British Album of the Year.

Elton John

Elton John: One of the best known British artists of all time. Sir Elton’s career has spanned four decades and included dozens of hit singles.


Lorde: Teenage sensation from New Zealand, best known for hit track Royal from her debut album Pure Heroine.

Chris Martin

Chris Martin: Frontman of band Coldplay, one of the most successful UK groups of the past 20 years.

Brian Wilson

Brian Wilson: American and member of the Beach Boys, who recorded the original version of God Only Knows.

Florence Welch

Florence Welch: Frontwoman of British indie band Florence + the Machine.

Kylie Mingoue

Kylie Minogue: Australian singer who recently performed at the closing ceremony for the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

Stevie Wonder

Stevie Wonder: American Motown legend, famous for hits including Superstition, Signed Sealed Delivered, and I Just Called to Say I Love You.

Eliza Carthy

Eliza Carthy: English folk musician, who recently released double album Wayward Daughter to mark her 21 years in the business.

Nicola Benedetti

Nicola Benedetti: Scottish classical music star best known for her violin skills. The 27-year-old from West Kilbride was made an MBE last year.

Jools Holland

Jools Holland: English pianist, former member of Squeeze, boogie-woogie enthusiast and presenter of Later… with Jools Holland on BBC Two.

Brian May

Brian May: Queen guitarist and, more recently, campaigner against badger culls in England.

Jake Bugg

Jake Bugg: English singer/songwriter, whose self-titled debut album reached the top of the charts in 2012.

Katie Derham

Katie Derham: BBC Proms presenter, who recently rediscovered her passion for playing the violin herself.

Lauren Laverne

Lauren Laverne: Despite being a former singer in teen band Kenickie, the BBC Radio 6 Music DJ does not sing in her brief appearance in the video.

Gareth Malone

Gareth Malone: English choirmaster and broadcaster best known for BBC Two’s The Choir and helping the Military Wives choir towards a Christmas number one.

Alison Balsom

Alison Balsom: Award-winning English trumpeter. She is a former winner of the female artist of the year award at the Classic Brit Awards.

One Direction

One Direction: One of the most successful British boy bands of all time, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Niall Horan and Harry Styles emerged from The X Factor to become superstars across the globe.

Zane Low

Zane Lowe: The second of the BBC DJs to feature in the video is New Zealander Lowe who presents the evening show championing new bands on BBC Radio 1.

Jaz Dhami

Jaz Dhami: Birmingham-based Bhangra artist who originally trained in Indian classical music.

Paloma Faith

Paloma Faith: English singer and actress currently on a career high after notching up her first number one single with Changing, her collaboration with bass duo Sigma

Chrissie Hynde

Chrissie Hynde: American singer who reached number one with her own band the Pretenders on Brass in Pocket in 1980 and then with UB40 on I Got You Babe in 1985.

Jamie Cullum

Jamie Cullum: English jazz and pop singer and pianist – and presenter of a popular jazz-based show on BBC Radio 2.

Baaba Maal

Baaba Maal: Senegalese singer and Oxfam ambassador who recently took part in the Africa Express project with concerts in major UK cities and pop-up shows in schools, factories and railway stations.

Danielle de Niese

Danielle de Niese: Australian opera singer, based in the US. She won a talent show aged nine singing a medley of Whitney Houston songs and her prize was a Yamaha baby grand piano, which she still owns.

Dave Grohl

Dave Grohl: Foo Fighters frontman and former drummer in cult rock band Nirvana.

Sam Smith

Sam Smith: British singer/songwriter who has already sung on three number one singles, having been tipped by the BBC as the Sound of 2014 at the start of the year.
