Jonathan Boxill Signs For The Belfast Giants

The Stena Line Belfast Giants announced the signing of Jonathan Boxill from the Nottingham Panthers at their annual Season Ticket Holders event at the Odyssey Arena on Thursday 7th May.

Boxill, a teammate of another new Giants signing – Chris Higgins while in Nottingham for the 2014/15 season, posted 48 points in 123 games played for the Panthers across two seasons.

The 26 year old joined the Elite League in 2013 after eight spent years in the USA, including four seasons in the New England College NCAA team. The English forward enjoyed a well-earned call up to the Team GB squad for the recent 2015 World Championship’s in Holland – where Boxill helped the GB national team to a silver medal as they impressively defeated Korea and Poland along the way.

Steve Thornton, speaking on his capture of Jonathan Boxill for the 2015/16 Elite League season,

“He is an incredible guy off the ice and he will be a good teammate. The Giants fans gravitate towards players who play like Jonathan does. He plays hard on every single shift, he doesn’t take nights off, he puts his body on the line and he plays for the front of the shirt. He will be an important player for us who will be going up against other teams top lines. He creates energy which will be contagious for the rest of the team and that’s exactly what i’m looking for.”
