The Irish League weekend is already underway, but attention now turns firmly to Saturday’s BOYLE Sports Premiership programme, with five games across Northern Ireland and plenty at stake.
With Friday night’s Coleraine v Ballymena United derby already in the books, there’s no looking backwards.
Saturday brings four 3pm kick-offs before Linfield travel to Stangmore Park to face Dungannon Swifts at 6pm.
From Belfast to Portadown, here’s what’s coming up.
Carrick Rangers v Cliftonville – 3pm
Cliftonville make the short trip to Taylor’s Avenue looking to pick up points on the road against Carrick Rangers.
Carrick can be a difficult side to deal with on their own patch, and Cliftonville will know this is the sort of fixture where they cannot afford to take anything for granted.
For the Reds, the objective is straightforward: impose themselves early, control the game and avoid allowing Carrick to turn it into the kind of scrappy contest that can make Taylor’s Avenue an uncomfortable place for visiting teams.
Crusaders v Limavady United – 3pm
There’s Saturday afternoon football at Seaview as Crusaders welcome Limavady United to North Belfast.
For Limavady, it’s another opportunity to test themselves against established Premiership opposition, while Crusaders will see home fixtures like this as important opportunities to collect maximum points.
The longer Limavady can keep things tight, however, the more interesting this one could become.
Glentoran v Bangor – 3pm
One of the afternoon’s intriguing fixtures comes at The Oval, where Glentoran host Bangor.
The Glens will have the backing of the home support and will expect to take the initiative, but Bangor will arrive in East Belfast determined to make their presence felt.
There should be a good atmosphere around The Oval, and Glentoran will be looking for the kind of convincing home performance that sends supporters into Saturday evening happy.
Portadown v Larne – 3pm
Larne travel to Shamrock Park for what could be a fascinating battle with Portadown.
Portadown at home are capable of making life difficult for anyone, while Larne will be determined to ensure they don’t leave points behind on the road.
This has the potential to be one of Saturday afternoon’s closest contests, particularly if Portadown can get the home crowd involved early.
Dungannon Swifts v Linfield – 6pm
The Premiership action continues into Saturday evening as Linfield travel to Stangmore Park for a 6pm kick-off against Dungannon Swifts.
It’s the standout late fixture and will be shown as a NIFL TV Showcase game.
Linfield will head west looking for three points, but Stangmore Park has never been somewhere teams should expect an easy evening.
Dungannon are capable of playing some excellent football and, with the later kick-off putting this game in the spotlight, they will have every incentive to make it a difficult night for the Blues.
From a Linfield perspective, these are important away fixtures. If you want to be competing at the top end of the Premiership, finding ways to win on the road — particularly when games become tight — is essential.
It should provide a strong finish to Saturday’s Premiership programme.
