The Institute of Directors (IoD) Northern Ireland is calling on young business leaders to ‘supercharge their leadership’ at its annual Young Directors Conference, designed to help emerging directors fast track their journey to business success.
That is the theme of the business body’s Young Directors Conference, sponsored by Barclays, which will take place at the Merchant Hotel, Belfast on 5th October when more than 150 delegates will hear a keynote address from best-selling author and television contributor Richard McCann.
Richard McCann’s first book ‘Just a Boy’ sold almost half-a-million copies documenting his ‘stolen childhood’ and subsequent triumph over adversity. McCann’s story has made him a sought-after motivational speaker around the world whose work aims to instil communicative confidence within young leaders.
IoD NI Business Development Manager Lisa Maltman said:
“Now in its third year, the IoD NI Young Directors Forum seeks to provide an engaging, discursive platform between emerging business leaders and some of the UK and Ireland’s most highly regarded entrepreneurs.
“The conference offers directors the opportunity to gather in an intimate setting to learn, share insights and discuss the issues that matter most to them as well as joining strategic conversations and exploring new ideas in leadership practice.”
In addition to the keynote session, the conference, which is also sponsored by Grant Thornton and MCS Group, will include a networking lunch, masterclasses on ‘The Art of Negotiation’ and ‘How to be culturally competent’ and a panel discussion featuring ‘leaders worth following’ including Irish rugby international Claire McLaughlin and Evermore Energy founder Ciaran Devine.
Gavin Campbell, Barclays Corporate Banking Relationship Director, added:
“A strong economy relies not only on maintaining and supporting the success of its existing businesses but on fostering the next generation of leaders as they move into senior roles and create new companies of their own.
“We are proud, as its main sponsor, that the IoD’s Young Directors Forum, creates a platform to help support our wide pool of emerging directors alongside networking opportunities with likeminded contemporaries.”
Meanwhile as part of Barclays Young Director series, Allstate will be the venue for the Young Directors Forum event ‘Food for Thought – The People behind Boojum’ on 14th September.
It will hear from David Maxwell, the man behind one of the fast-growing food establishments in Ireland. In less than three years, the Mexican fast-food chain has grown from five to 18 branches, now employing almost 200 people.
The Young Directors Forum is made up of directors aged under 43 and includes representation from all sectors spanning private, public and voluntary organisations. Events are open to both members and non-members.
An early-bird rate of £65+VAT to attend the conference, is available until 17th August. To book, or to find out more about the conference or any Young Directors Forum, please visit iod.com/ni.
