Giro d’Italia Opening Event

Come Meet the Riders!

The Giro Opening Event takes place on the evening of Thursday 8 May 2014 in the grounds of Belfast City Hall.

This is your chance to see your cycling idols up close and personal. The nine riders from each of the 22 teams will be presented along with a range of entertainment featuring a performance by one of the Irish tenors, Finbar Wright and stunt riders from the Ramprage Extreme Sports Crew. This event, which will take place from 6pm – 9pm, is free to attend but will be ticketed access (gates open 5.30pm).

Ticket Information

Free tickets will be released to the public on a first-come, first-served basis at 9am, Thursday 24 April via:

  • online – click here to book (link will become active at 9am)
  • in person at Visit Belfast Welcome Centre, opposite Belfast City Hall (9 Donegall Square North, Belfast, BT1 5GJ) – view map

Tickets will be limited to two per person.

Collect Your Online Reservation
If you are successful in reserving your online tickets, you MUST take your collection voucher to the Visit Belfast Welcome Centre in order to obtain your Giro wristband tickets. You can collect your pre-booked tickets from 2pm on 24 April. Full details, including the deadline for collecting your tickets, will be provided by email once you make your online reservation. If you do not collect your tickets by the deadline stated, they will be reallocated.

Accessible Viewing Area
There will be a designated accessible viewing area within the event site. Tickets for this area are limited and only available by telephone booking from 9am on 24 April 2014. To book, please call Visit Belfast Welcome Centre 028 9024 6609. Accessible tickets are limited to one per person and an accompanying guest.

About the Giro d’Italia Big Start

Belfast and Northern Ireland are hosting the Giro d’Italia Big Start (Grande Partenza) from 9 – 11 May 2014. The Giro d’Italia is one of the world’s greatest cycling events, second only to the Tour de France. Over 200 top professional cyclists from across the globe will be in Belfast to compete for the pink lead jersey.
