The Christmas season gives enough opportunity for families to bond and create more precious memories together. It gives them the chance to build a deeper connection and establish family traditions. However, although helpful in drawing the family closer, family traditions can be boring in the long run.
If you and your family are thinking of a new way to celebrate Christmas, here are some must-try ideas for you.
Take an unusual spin to traditional party games
Even though it’s December, it doesn’t mean that you can’t set up party games used for other seasons. Take, for example, a treasure hunt. You can take on a different spin to Easter egg hunting and hide famous Christmas symbols around your decorated house. You can also do a relay game where family members need to compete with each other in wrapping presents.
Other good games to try for your party are charades, memory games and Christmas bingo.
Ensure there’s enough space for everyone
If you are quite unsure if your place can hold all the activities you are planning, you should consider hiring a marquee for the party. It’s convenient to have especially if you have a large family or if you’ll have some of your friends and other relatives over. It can easily be decorated and very spacious.
Marquees are flexible, too. You can hire one and have it adjusted to your desired shape and size. You can design it according to your theme. It’s also easy to warm up which is very important in keeping every guest comfortable during the party.
Depending on your company, you’ll be able to get it with lighting, catering and even furniture. Most companies that offer marquee for hire are one-stop-shops so make sure you do your research first to get the best deal possible.
Set up a sledding party
Gather up your kids and invite some of their friends over for a sledding party in your yard or at the park. Make sure that your kids are all dressed properly for the activity to prevent frostbites, chills and other accidents.
After the activity, take them all inside and give them a warm soup to fill their small tummies. You can use a soup maker to make sure your food stays warm throughout the party. If soups aren’t your kids’ kind of food, you can prepare them warm cocoa mugs instead.
Hold a competition for the adults
Christmas is all about giving, but it doesn’t mean you can’t hold a friendly competition between family members or friends. A good example is gingerbread house decoration.
Assemble all the necessary materials participants need to set up nice gingerbread houses and dedicated a specific time for them to finish the activity. The shorter the time, the more challenging the competition gets. You can ask the older members of the family to judge and declare the winner.
You can also do naming competitions, like Christmas carols, Christmas movies and Pictionary relays. If you are planning on doing a drinking game, make sure the kids are already tucked in for the night.
Donate clothes and toys
This may sound far from your usual celebrations, but donating clothes and toys to the needy is one way to truly emulate the spirit of Christmas. It’s also a good way for you to teach your kids the value of sharing and to be giving to unfortunate people.
You can search for an organization in your area that supports the same cause and ask for the things they really need. It doesn’t have to involve expensive items or monetary donations. You can give them some of your family’s used clothes and toys.
