Belfast’s longest running weekly comedy club, Est1992
Making a much welcome return to Belfast’s weekly entertainment fixture is the much
loved comedy club which will return next Tuesday night (Oct 12) with a fantastic A List
Taking to the stage will be master of ceremonies, COLIN MURPHY (resident panellist on
the award-winning BBC series The Blame Game), EMMA DORAN (one of Ireland’s most
exciting emerging talents. Her stand up and sketches have racked up hundred of
thousands of hits online) and PAUL SINHA (stand up comedian and the infamous ‘The
Sinnerman’ from The Chase, ITV1). A sterling line up to mark the relaunch of the weekly
comedy club after 19 months of lockdown.
Following recent NI Executive review of Covid regulations the venue owners and
Moondog Productions have decided to reopen the doors and offer a much needed laugh
to the people of Belfast as well as work for the many of the comedians who have found
themselves unable to gig since lockdown was introduced.
Following COVID protocols, the club will operate at a limited capacity however the jokes
and the laughs will be just as fast and furious as usual. Jade Henry (Promoter) says “For
many weeks I have been inundated with enquiries as to when the weekly club will restart.
For various reasons it has been a challenge, not least because numbers are limited
however, with HARP supporting the season we are delighted to be able to provide our
usual mix of the very best of established and emerging comedians from home and further
Almost 29 years to the day, The Empire Laughs Back celebrates it’s 29th birthday of when
it first opened, in a very different, pre-ceasefire Northern Ireland. Producer, Jackie
Hamilton and comedian, Patrick Kielty opened the doors to the weekly Tuesday night gig
on Tuesday 13th October, 1992. Since then the comedy club has become an icon for
both punters and comedians alike, a nurturing ground for many comics who have since
become household names including; Sarah Millican, John Bishop, Kevin Bridges, Sean
Lock and many, many more.

The Empire Laughs Back returns weekly from Tuesday 12th October. Doors open at 7:30pm.
