The 2023 Emerging Entrepreneurs Summer School, launched by Raise Ventures & Young Enterprise Northern Ireland in August of this year, has been hailed a huge success by industry leaders following its completion, with a group of 18 young people from a range of backgrounds recently taking part in the Belfast based programme.

Spearheaded by Raise Ventures, a early stage tech accelerator, in partnership with Young Enterprise Northern Ireland, Ulster Bank and the Ormeau Baths, the Summer School aimed to carve a clearer path for young people into entrepreneurship and showcase it as a viable career path. The Summer School took place from 21st – 25th August, and was aimed at young people aged 17-21, offering them the opportunity to learn from founders of startup and scaleup companies in the local ecosystem through an inspiring one-week programme.

Competencies such as moving from the student bubble into leadership, innovative thinking, business plans, public speaking and pitching were developed throughout the week ending with the young entrepreneurs showcasing their learnings to their friends, family and new network at a Demo Day.

Jenny Ervine (Raise Ventures) said;

“The Emerging Entrepreneurs Summer School Week was a huge success as it enabled 18 young people to explore much more than the theory of business, they experienced real life entrepreneurship. They developed confidence in speaking and networking, they came together to form ideas and teams, they worked together to develop a pitch, they presented themselves and their idea and built resilience with on the street customer research and a cold sea swim.

The biggest takeaway was the connections with all our speakers which came from not just Raise but the partners supporting the programme. This enabled the young people to explore further many opportunities within the entrepreneurship ecosystem which will make a lasting impact on their future careers.”
