Food for Thought: How What You Eat in Belfast Can Get You Feeling Positive

Winter is well and truly on its way, and whilst the fun of kicking leaves, curling up in front of the fire and tucking into homemade soups is a whole lot of fun at least for a while, it does get old quickly. The warmer months begin to feel like an old friend, and you yearn for beer gardens and barbecues.

Never fear though, there are a number of things you can do in order to brighten your day, and what better opportunity than the cold nights of winter to try something new? From getting fit with a personal training plan from the likes of Belfast-based fitness gurus FitPit to seeking clarity with the psychic phone service TheCircle, there is a host of things you can do to brighten your day.

For those of you who feel like you have tried all the possible positivity trends going on at the moment; think again. There are a few things that you should try in order to put an end to the negativity and let in the good stuff in. One of those is food.

Having food to build up your positive energy does not necessarily mean a takeaway and Netflix binge, in fact, we would recommend the opposite. If anything, that encourages isolation and the food is full of salt, fat and complex carbohydrates which can have a negative effect on your state of mind. You may not have realised this, but there are special ingredients that can be easily integrated into your diet, which are steeped in positive psychological properties, all lovingly supplied right here in Belfast.

Nuts and Seeds

healthy food

How many times have dismissed eating nuts and seeds because they seem like bird food? There will be a few of you guilty of this, but do not judge them by their appearance, as nuts and seeds are just some of the foods that are rich in wellbeing properties. Good places to look for nuts and seeds in dishes are vegan or vegetarian cafes, as they are also a source of protein instead of meat. The Honest Vegan, for example, on the outskirts of the city centre, serves its noodle salad with peanuts and sesame seeds, the latter bringing you more life force.

Basil

If you have a craving for Italian cuisine, then basil is ideal for achieving that positive mindset. There are two types of basil; holy and sweet. Holy basil helps to clear the body of old, more negative thoughts, so your mind and body can function effectively and stay healthy. You might also be getting down about the cold weather, in which case sweet basil is a must. As it is grown in warm temperatures, the herb maintains warming properties and is ideal for warming you up on a winter’s day. A good pizza or pasta dish at somewhere like Coppi or The Chubby Cherub is worth a visit to get your basil fix.

Ketchup

Last but not least, tomato ketchup actually has spiritual properties which will aid your search for positivity. Those in the know maintain that it can help you in your relationships and in finding a positive energy. Go on, treat yourself, and grab yourself a burger at one of Belfast’s top healthy(ish) establishments like Bootleggers or Build a Burger and cover it in ketchup.

Hopefully, this has given you a few ideas about what you could be eating that will put a spring in your step this winter. So go out, Belfast, eat well and feel positive!
